The more you take the more you leave behind. What am I?

At first glance, the riddle “The more you take the more you leave behind. What am I?” seems to be impossible. After all, how can taking something away result in there being more left behind? It just doesn’t seem to make sense, does it?

The key to solving this tricky riddle is, as is the case with most of the best riddles, to think laterally. Once you realize that the riddle isn’t referring to taking or leaving behind actual objects, things become a little clearer.

Here’s a hint: What do you take wherever you walk?

Still not managed to work out the solution to this riddle? Here’s the answer:

The more you take the more you leave behind. What am I?
