The number of hours in a year will depend on whether or not the year in question is a leap year. Obviously, a leap year has an extra day in it and so will have 24 more hours in it than a standard year. So let’s look at how we calculate how many hours in a year…
How many hours in a year?
For a normal year, that is a non-leap year, there are 365 days in the year. As there are 24 hours in every day, this means that there are:
365 (days in the year) x 24 (hours in a day) = 8,760.
How many hours in a leap year?
You can use the same method to calculate how many hours in a leap year:
366 (days in the leap year) x 24 (hours in a day) = 8,784.
Of course, as we know that a leap year has 24 more hours in it than a standard year, we can also work out the number of hours in a leap year just by adding 24 to the number of hours in a standard year.
