Freddie Mercury is widely acclaimed as one of the greatest rock singers and showmen of all time. He had a successful solo career but what was the name of the band of which he was lead singer?
Of which band was Freddie Mercury lead singer?
Freddie Mercury was lead singer of the rock band Queen. The band was formed in London in 1970 and became one of the biggest-selling and most popular arena rock bands in history. Their legendary performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert is widely considered to be one of the greatest live performances of all time.
The other founding band members were lead guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor, and bass player John Deacon.
Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar in 1946. He later adopted the name Freddie Mercury, taking inspiration from the line “Mother Mercury, look what they’ve done to me” in the song “My Fairy King” which featured on Queen’s eponymously-titled debut album.
